Umeå University was founded
in 1965 and is Sweden's fifth oldest university. Today,
we have a strong international and multicultural presence
with students, teachers and researchers from all over
the world. Our university has approximately 29,000
students and over 4,100 employees.
The university has long worked to
bring about communication between fields, interdisciplinary
thinking, with new approaches and perspectives in
mind. Besides our seven university colleges, at Umeå
University, 24 research centres have been established
offering interdisciplinary research, which in many
cases is being carried out by our internationally
successful, highly respected researchers.
We have campus in the three northernmost
counties of Sweden, with our main campus in the city
of Umeå
in the county of Västerbotten.
Our EU Project Office - within External
Relations - is your contact point for international
research cooperation with the university and our regional,
national and international partners from universities,
industry and society.
The European Union framework programmes
(50 billion Euro) for Research (FP
7) and Competitiveness and Innovation (CIP)
invite most countries to cooperate with Europe, and
our university is involved in many fruitful and exciting
cooperative ventures throughout Europe and the world.
